CHENNAI / September 12, 2019: CAHOTECH 2019, the fourth international healthcare technology conference of Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organizations (CAHO), will beheld at IIT Madras Research Park in Chennai from September 27-28, 2019. The two-day annual gathering is considered as the biggest healthcare technology event in India. (The event will be conducted for two days, However, the conference is held on 28th September 2019).

More than 700 healthcare professionals and delegates from across the country will be attending CAHOTECH 2019 this year to keep themselves updated with the latest technology and products related to the healthcare sector. These include med-tech vendors, process innovators, and solution providers; start-ups looking for funding and beta-testing space; hospital decision-makers; and investors scouting for innovative and disruptive technologies. Mr. Sameer Mehta, Organizing Chairman, CAHOTECH 2019, said “The event this year will be on even a grander scale than before. More than 25 distinguished speakers will address the audience at CAHOTECH 2019 at about 25sessions and talks spread across two days. These include names like Som Mittal (FormerPresident & Chairman, NASSCOM), Dr. Gagandeep Kang (Christian Medical College),Lakshmi Narayanan (Cognizant Technology Solutions), Josh Foulger (Foxconn InternationalHolding), Arun Jain (Founder – Polaris), Dr. Bhaskar Ramamurthi (Director – IIT Madras); Dr.Yoon Kyoung Cho (Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology), Dr. HooshmandPalany (ASEAN – Business Advisory Council), Ravindran B (IIT Madras), and Anil Relia(Quality Council of India). A major highlight of the event will be the presence of equity investors and venture capitalistswho will be assessing participating start-ups for funding opportunities in healthcare technologyspace. Start-ups will get to explore opportunities for incubation and engaging with hospitals forthe beta testing of new products. A pitch-fest for startups will be held, with a total purse of Rs 20 lakh available for funding.

Cybersecurity Bootcamp for Hospitals

Cybersecurity is becoming a part and parcel of our daily life. The theft of private, financial, or other sensitive data and cyber attacks that damage computer systems are capable of causing lasting harm to anyone engaged in personal or commercial capacity. Cyber security in the healthcare industry has the biggest share of the pie. They are struggling to keep themselves secure.

Considering this issue Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organization (CAHO) and InnovatioCuris (IC) jointly organized Cybersecurity Bootcamp Training for Hospitals’ at M.S. Ramaiah Advanced Learning Centre in Bengaluru, India on 30th September, 2018. Personnels from eighteen hospitals from various parts of the country attended the bootcamp. Personnel included CXOs, hospitals administrators, IT staff and a few doctors.

What hospitals learned?
To enhance cybersecurity capabilities at hospitals, attendees learned

Cyber threats landscape for hospitals: Dysfunctioning of medical devices can be catastrophic. Imagine, hackers take control of one’s pacemaker and ask for ransom or else they would manipulate the device which could be fatal. This kind of attack has been showcased in the very famous TV show Homeland wherein the Vice President dies due to hackers remotely disabled his pacemaker.

Cyber vulnerabilities and their protection: Many healthcare enterprises have the legacy or antiquated devices that are running outdated software or operating systems. This is the easiest path for attackers lie in the integrated building management, physical security and clinical devices. Healthcare networks are often designed to minimize cost and maximize efficiency, creating flat networks that are easy targets for attackers. Everything else takes a back seat, often including cybersecurity. Healthcare organizations are hyper-focused on their primary mission – saving lives and helping patients – and cybersecurity risks aren’t on the forefront of their minds. Many healthcare enterprises leverage external third-party vendors to manage and run their systems, which can introduce a significant amount of risk.

Ransomware: Ransomware epidemic is spreading in healthcare like wildfire due to its increasing digitalization which is and will attract more attention of hackers. The healthcare industry has been a victim of various cyber attacks in the last few years. According to recent studies, healthcare has outnumbered financial services and become the most cyber attacked industry. The latest in cyber-attack is ransomware wherein the hacker encrypts the data and threatens to publish it until the ransom is paid in form of bitcoins. In US alone, healthcare industry was the victim of 88 percent of all ransomware attacks across industries last year.

Medical devices security framework: The five star medical devices cybersecurity framework: Safety by design, third-party collaboration, evidence capture, security updates and segmentation & isolation.

Healthcare compliances: Healthcare compliance requires healthcare organizations and providers to develop effective processes, policies, and procedures to define appropriate conduct, train the organization’s staff, and then monitor the adherence to the processes, policies, and procedures.

To learn about the problems of the attendees and hospitals, a group task was conducted. This helped us know better our participants and provide viable and tangible solutions. Discussions were made about the immediate threat they have, how they cater them and what more steps can be taken to serve their needs in a better manner.

Innovative approach to a healthy life

A two-day national level event InnoHEALTH 2017 was hosted in the capital with international participants. Vigyan Arya reports about the two-day high profile event attended by leading industry representatives from India and abroad.

A voice to raise concern about the increasing cost of health and medical facilities was given a platform at the two-day InnoHEALTH 2017 that was hosted on September 18th and 19th in the capital. In the second year of its running, the event was co-hosted by InnovatioCuris and Indiattitude that extended a stage for innovations in the field of health and medicine.

Addressing the large gathering of doctors and high-profile professionals from the industry, Dr V.K. Singh, the visionary behind this event conveyed that the prime objective of this mega event is to contribute towards bringing down the healthcare delivery cost yet maintaining the quality.

InnoHEALTH 2017 helped in doing so by creating deliberations among policy makers, industry and academia on topics linked with Innovations in Hospitals, diagnostics, medical devices, pharma, biotech, digital healthcare and new delivery models.

The conference saw an attendance of around 250 Delegates with an overwhelming response of 170 on the very first day including 50 elite speakers from all over the world.

H.E. Riho Kruuv, Estonian Ambassador to India, DG Armed Forces Medical Services and Prof. Anil Gupta known for his work of innovations were some of the key speakers. The attendance saw presence from renowned healthcare personalities such as Dr. Arvind Lal of Lal Pathlabs, Dr. Ravi Gaur CEO Oncquest Labs, Dr. Padam Khanna – NHSRC, Mr. Partha Dey – IBM India, Mr. R Rengarajan Iyengar from HCL Healthcare.

On the first day of the power-packed two-day event, the conference hosted a B2B meeting to connect the Indian stakeholders with a visiting European Union delegation pertaining to innovative health sector companies. The companies were selected through a competitive program with a focus on cost-effective innovations for the Indian market.

With the objective of making it an international platform for the industry professionals with similar aims and goals, the conference had very high-profile brands, corporate and government organizations shouldering their support. Conference also hosted young innovators award.

The big boost in the confidence and capabilities of the conference was extended by the Embassy of Estonia, as the country partner. Other leading partners included, NHSRC representatives of MoHFW, Government of India, Public Health Foundation of India; CAHO as the association of accredited hospitals of India and AHPI that represents more than 10,000 private healthcare providers. IAMI brought in the clinicians involved in healthcare analytics while ScanBalt brings the outreach to more than 22,000 professionals in 11 European countries.

There were many more that contributed feathers to the hat to make InnoHEALTH 2017 a very successful event in terms of the perceived outcome.

The two-day event saw some very insightful discussions on, Innovations for Hospitals; Diagnostics of Tomorrow; Innovations for Affordable Healthcare – A Medical Device Perspective and Public Health and Biotech, on the first day of the conference.

The second day started off with a very informative keynote address by Professor Rishikesha T. Krishnan of IIM Indore. He is a Director and Professor of Strategic Management at the Indian Institute of Management in Indore.

It was followed by discussions on Healthcare Beyond Hospitals; Innovations in the Pharma Sector; Digital Health: Giving birth to new delivery models and fostering innovations, finally followed by Challenges and Redefining Healthcare Landscape.

The last two sessions of the day opened a very important chapter in the field of innovations in health sector. Indian and international companies were given a platform to make their pitch claiming the coveted Innovations titles. The finale was the dispensing of Young Innovations Awards.

Overwhelmed by the encouraging response this year, the organizers announced the dates for the next InnoHEALTH 2018, to take place on 5th – 6th October 2018, with a raised hope to come back next year keeping shared goals in healthcare with only, bigger, better and meatier roles for all stakeholders.

Innovation is not very old. Despite that Public Health is the most curative neglected area as most doctors do not wish to go in that direction. Most prefer to work in the preventive medication that is more lucrative and appeals to most, even to the students, much before they even become qualified doctors.[/vc_cta]
