A new technology that promises enhanced vision clarity

An increasing number of studies and toxicological evidence shows that burning of solid fossil fuels is associated with cataract forma- tion. Harmful environmental toxic compounds cause “ocular irrita- tion” or irritation in the eyes. Un- refined cooking oil when burned under high temperature emits ben- zene and formaldehyde. The toxic air results in trachoma, glaucoma and cataract.But various viable and effective technological alternatives are now available for cataract patients.

Intraocular lenses (IOLs) replace the natural eye lenses after cata- ract surgery for enhanced vision. Previously through conventional multifocal lenses, the quality of vision would get reduced due to division of light. These lenses re- portedly caused high incidences of halos and glare, which are bright rings and sharp light which in- terferes with vision, and the fre- quent need of wearing glasses did not completely fulfill the purpose of getting the lenses implanted In recent times, technological ad- vancement made significant im- provement making it possible for patients to resume a completely normal life post cataract surgery with nearly perfect vision.

On the other hand, a new technology known as ERV IOL commended as the next revolution in eye care gives a perfect balance of contrast, light, near, far and even intermediate vision.

Doctors are constantly underlining the utter need for awareness around eye care. Regular checkups, especially for diabetic patients are imperative. ERV IOL promises to be the next revolution in eye care and providing respite from eye ailments.

On the third day of the event, a special seminar was hosted by IC Innovator Club (IC)2 with its first meeting held on 20 Sept 2017 at India International Center (IIC, Annexe), New Delhi.

The club brought all innovators, investors, start up, technology persons, policy makers, health experts and legal advisers under one large umbrella to be members and hold hands by sharing success stories and challenges and to incubate their ideas to take the dream and vision of India forward. It has a very strong band of advisers to support the activity of club and mentor projects. The aim is to bring down healthcare delivery cost yet maintain quality through innovations. IC has an outreach of 30,000 people globally to share its activities. The first of the club meetings was supported by Amity University, represented by Dr. Ajit Kumar Nagpal and three of the leading investors in the field of health and medical facilities.

Fortis Hospital and EzyMov launch a first of its kind Mobile Clinic for Senior Citizens

Senior citizens of Thane and Mulund to benefit from this initiative, a free of cost service at their doorstep

Recently a team of doctors and staff at Fortis Hospital, Mulund launched ‘Clinic on Wheels’ at Wamanrao Munjaran Vidyalaya Complex, Mulund. The Clinic on Wheels is set to provide free OPD services and medical consultation to all senior citizens. It will remain on-call from 7 am to 7 PM for six days in a week. Services provided at this clinic include ECG check, Random Blood Sugar check and Blood Pressure check. The mobile clinic, manned by a trained team of a Geriatrician and a nurse is also equipped with Oxygen support which is vital during emergencies. It also wheelchair enabled for patients with special needs.

In light of the view that It is imperative that we, as a society at large, are responsible for well-being of our elders. This initiative is an attempt to reach out to elders who may need medical care within comfort of their home. The trained teams are capable and will provide best possible medical care to the senior citizens of the region. The initiative has witnessed support from many senior citizen groups. SENSORS PREDICTING FALLS

An Australian Innovation

Data reveals that currently Australian health care system pays $8.4 billion for injuries caused by falls. This led a team of Melbourne innovators to develop a sensor system that has the ability to predict falls in the elderly before they occur and also made them win the inaugural Janssen HaTCH challenge and was awarded a $100,000 grant.

The system which is known as “FOOTPR INTS ” is attached to a walking frame that will continuously monitor a senior’s walking quality and inform doctors when interventions are required. This device can not only help to prevent falls but also reduce costly hospitalisations. Footprints can help reduce the healthcare costs by preventing falls. The device may also improve the quality of life of Australian seniors and could allow them to remain independent for longer.

VISIT LAUNCH SWASTHA BHARAT M-HEALTH APP

MapmyIndia and VISIT Internet Services Pvt Ltd have come together to help the government launch Swastha Bharat m-health app for smart cities, tier-2 towns and villages powered by their mapping technologies and AI-enabled tele-medicine platform, respectively. The app allows citizens to access emergency ambulance services find nearby hospitals, clinics, labs, pharmacy outlets and consult doctors and specialists over chat, phone and video. Mapmyindia’s GPS technology and mapping data enables one tap ambulance requests helping governments build emergency response infrastructure for cities, towns and villages. Users can also lookup nearest health centres, fix doctor appointments and order medicines from nearby pharmacies. The app also solves health queries by providing instant health answers to the citizens through a chat based health assistant.

The live chat service is developed by VISIT and backed by India’s top doctors who keep reviewing the information provided to the citizens. The health assistant can also help users in diagnosing health issues; provide instant suggestions and home remedies. Users also get health recommendations about the most chatted issues by people based on the users’ demographic data and past history to help them avoid any possible health concerns. The chat assistant can also provide information on local epidemics and necessary preventive steps to be taken.
